Individual Therapy

Counseling can be helpful for the individual who desires to grow, heal, and recover as well as to address deeper issues.

Individual counseling can also provide support for those that are in a painful relationship when it is not possible for both parties to be in counseling together. Individual counseling can also provide a safe space where the client can explore what factors are leading them to feel “stuck”, and can help them identify what changes need to be made to move into a place of greater healing and freedom.

Gillean will help the client look at present circumstances and how these are affecting the client’s experience as well as the client’s past experiences in their family or origin and other relationships.  The goal of this is for the client to gain a better understanding and awareness of themselves leading to greater acceptance and compassion for oneself.  

The safety and support of the therapeutic relationship can provide the client the experience of being heard, understood and truly known.  

I desire to work with you to identify relationship dynamics, belief systems and defense mechanisms in order to  gain insight, understanding and tools for new ways of living.

Child Therapy

As humans we were created to have emotions and feelings, but often for children it can be difficult to recognize and express their feelings and emotions.  Often, when children go through challenging life experiences they might have a difficult time not only expressing their feelings, but even being aware of what type of feelings and emotions they are experiencing.  A play therapist uses imaginative play, art, and various games to give a child space to recognize and identify their feelings and emotions, and then works with the child and family to develop positive coping skills for handling painful emotions.  This experience helps the child move from feeling alone and isolated to being seen and supported.

Getting your child counseling in a time of need can positively impact brain development, emotional health and have lifelong benefits.  By providing a safe place such as therapy, the parent communicates that the needs of the child are important and the child will feel supported and cared for. 

Couples Therapy

Couples therapy is a safe place for couples to be able to learn healthy communication, express hurt and offer forgiveness, explore and learn how to better meet one another’s physical, emotional, and spiritual needs. Often, our own experiences of reflection and mistrust can lead us to developing painful cycles with our partner.  The couples counselor enters in with the couple to help identify painful cycles and helps lead them in establishing more peaceful cycles founded on love and trust. Gillean is also a certified Prepare/Enrich facilitator which can be used for engaged and married couples and is a structured premarital program that uses an online assessment revealing the strength and growth areas for your relationship.

Family Therapy

Family therapy is a safe place where families learn healthy communication, and grow in their empathy and understanding of one another.  It can also be a helpful place where family members are encouraged to participate in problem solving and where permission is given to set healthy boundaries.  The family therapist is able to provide a safe space where family members are free to express their feelings and needs to one another with the goal of fostering more connection and understanding.
